Support Relay for Life and have some cake TOO!

Click on image to enlarge

I am thrilled to announce that Couture Cakes will be designing an extraordinary one-of-a-kind cake for Relay for Life this October.  We have been given the opportunity to have our unique creation on display for all the cancer survivors and cancer research supporters to enjoy.  I am so excited to design something that represents courage, love, determination, peace, and all the many other attributes that all those who have survived cancer possess.  I want to keep the design a suprise but I simply cannot conceal the excitement to do something so profound for so many!!  My own beloved grandfather passed away from a rare form of lung cancer that typically affects children.  Sadly he died much too young and so part of the joy I have in doing this cake is to pay my respects to my grandfather and honor his memory as well as help raise money to stop this awful disease.  I encourage all my fans and followers to come support us in the fight to end cancer on October 30th.  It will be in Rackers Field House (the old gym) at Helias High School. The 5K race/walk and costume contest will begin at 9 a.m. Awards will take place after the race for top finishers and best costumes!  Come out, see a beautiful work of sugar art, AND enjoy free cake while helping out a great cause!!

A Baby Giraffe for Caleb's 1st Birthday!

Me with the Birthday Boy!

This week is a very special one.  It is Caleb's 1st birthday!!!  This little man has been through a lot in his little life and has come through all the trials and tribulations happy and bouncing with energy!  The bouncing with energy is truly an understatement!  What could I possibly make for this special birthday boy??  A giraffe cake of course.  The concept was inspired by Caleb's mom, who LOVES giraffes!  She wanted something sweet and whimsical that incorporated touches of "boy" with safari elements.  The showpiece had to be the baby giraffe on top!  It was modeled after the TY beanie baby giraffe and I must admit that I think it turned out absolutely precious!!  The cutest reaction to any cake was by this little guy.....he could not stop reaching for the giraffe!  I believe he thought it was a toy and could not understand why he was not allowed to play with it!!  Congratulations baby Caleb on turning one and may you continue to be blessed throughout your life!

Chocolate Cordial Cherry Delight!

A rich, dark chocolate, cherry filled cupcake coated in a shell of milk chocolate.  Swirled on top is a layer of vanilla cream cheese frosting with a decadent fudge glaze.   And to top it all off.....a cherry of course!    These were a HUGE hit among my MANY friends and coworkers!!

Drum Roll Please!

If only I could accompany this entry with a drum roll!  This cake was created to honor the hard work and dedication that Steven, a recently turned 16 year old, has put into playing his snare drum.  He is a member of his high school drum line and, as I understand, drives his younger brother crazy practicing on his drum set.  When I was approached to make a cake for Steven I was handed a picture of an antique snare drum and told to incorporate red and black, his high school colors.  It was decided that the main body of the drum should be black with the red banding along the top and bottom.  I wanted the rope and fasteners on the side to appear to be made of wire or metal with brass fixtures holding everything in place.  I had a wonderful time creating this modern take on an old classic!  Oh, and the best part.....EVERYTHING inside this cake creation is CHOCOLATE!, Steven's favorite!!  Happy 16th Birthday Steven!
